Race Analysis
Gov. Brian Schweitzer enjoys high favorable ratings and is favored to win re-election. He is being challenged by state Sen. Roy Brown, who has criticized Schweitzer for growing the state budget and state workforce by large amounts.
The top three elected officials in the state are now Democrats, after Jon Tester defeated three-term GOP Sen. Conrad Burns in 2006. Montana has voted Republican in nine of the last 10 presidential elections, with the lone exception coming in 1992.
