Race Analysis
Northwest Iowa was once where the Democrats’ hold on the state was concentrated. Today it is a Republican stronghold, represented by Steve King, one of the most conservative Republicans in Congress. Democrats had high hopes of ousting King in 2012, when former Iowa first lady Christine Vilsack took him on, but the result wasn’t particularly close; King won by eight points. This time, the Democrats’ nominee is Iraq War vet Jim Mowrer. Polls have shown King up, but not by an overwhelming margin.
