Race Analysis
Perennial canddiate Bob Kelleher surprisingly won the six-way Republican primary in June. He\'ll get no such surprise in November, when entrenched Sen. Max Baucus is expected to win handily.
Baucus would have been heavily favored over any Republican, including his two closest competitors in pre-primary polling -- Michael Lange and Kirk Bushman. The 85-year-old Republican nominee, who advocates a switch to a federal parliamentary government, has said he will not fundraise.
Baucus is running for a 6th term in the Senate. The current Senate Finance Committee chairman served two terms in the House before winning election to the upper chamber in 1978.
