Race Analysis
Sen. Jack Reed, who served six years in the House before entering the Senate in 1996, should have no trouble winning a 3rd term. He is being challenged by Republican Bob Tingle, whom Reed defeated 78%-22% in 2002.
Rhode Island has voted Democratic in the last five presidential elections. In 2006, incumbent GOP Gov. Donald Carcieri narrowly escaped defeat. Moderate Republican senator Lincoln Chafee wasn\'t as lucky, as Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse defeated him in 2006 after just one full term in the Senate.
