Sen. Michael Enzi is running for a third term in the Senate. Not many Democrats were rushing to challenge the 12-year incumbent. The dearth of challengers is partly due to the unusual situation that\'s occurred in Wyoming this year.
Republican John Barrasso was appointed in June 2007 to fill the seat vacated when GOP Sen. Craig Thomas died of complications from leukemia. To keep the seat, Barrasso will need to win a special election in November, seemingly an easier challenge for potential Democratic candidates than running against a two-term senator. Another tempting option for potential challengers is the open House seat being vacated by GOP Rep. Barbara Cubin, who barely held onto her seat in 2006.
Wyoming has voted Republican in 13 of the last 14 presidential elections, the lone exception being the landslide 1964 election.
